Order Of The Eastern Star

The Chapter was instituted, under dispensation,
 on April 14, 1926
by B. C. Webb, Worthy Grand Patron of Ocala.

Was officially chartered on June 16, 1926
and dedicated to Charity, Truth, and Loving Kindness.
It has held fast to these ideals through the years.
Charter members were
Stella 0. Love,  Gertrude Landrum,  Mattie D. Perry,
Frances C. Smoak,  Daisy D. Love,  Nannie L. Dunn,
Alice Adkins,  Eva B. Davis,  Emma Goolsby,
Ola J. Townsend,  Etta V. Tooke,  Amanda Baker,
Susie Carter,  Carro C. Castel,  Ed S.. Carter,
John W. Castel,  W. H. Dunn,  J. T. Love,
S. D. Moon,  W. A. Adkins,  and Frank P. Moon.

The first Chapter Officers were
 Stella Love, Worthy Matron  -  Ed A. Carter, Worthy Patron
Gertrude Landrum, Associate Matron.

Stella Love served in the Grand Chapter as Adah in 1931.
Others have been appointed to Grand Representatives,
Grand Instructors and Grand Chapter Committee
through the years.

One of the historic occasions through the years was when the seven Puckett sisters occupied the stations of Worthy Matron, Secretary and the five Star Points, with their mother and father, W. G. and Minerva Puckett
who were Past Matron and Past Patron.
The offices they held were
 Worthy Matron, Earlene Harman,  
Secretary, Wilma Steadman
 Star Points were:
 Vivian Higginbotham, Lois Allen, Ethel Winn,
Louise Puckett and Fannie Puckett.
They were introduced in the Grand Chapter Meeting in 1951
 by Grand Conductress, Mrs. Helen Theus.

From the estate of Brother Henry W. Adkins, a gift of $1,921.27 was made to the Chapter. A $2000 bond was purchased and that interest has helped along the way with finances. Each year they have had projects to improve the Hall, they gave to the projects of Grand Chapter, they have purchased a speaker system, new chairs, new tables, and helped the Masons to extend the
building fifteen feet on the front.

The Fifty Year Members are:
Ruth Tooke Carn, Miss Sue Jones, Mrs. Roseable Brown,
Miss Fannie Puckett, Mrs. Lois Allen,
and Mrs. Vivian Higginbotham.

All the Charter Members are deceased.

The Floral City Chapter OES #164 has grown and prospered through the years and the membership has increased from thirty to the present total of one hundred and seventy-eight.

The March 22, 1962 meeting, the Mason's reported the footing had been poured for the New Masonic Temple.

The Rainbow Girls received their Charter, January 10, 1970.

Hilton Higginbotham
